MAKE YOUR WAY IN THE REALM

Proficiencies & gathering

Grow ingredients, discover minerals and turn your finds into useful supplies. Your character develops proficiencies through the related activities; these are separate from combat levels.

Farming: from herb to crop

  1. Prepare your supplies. Bring plantable herbs, a furnace, water and a sickle or mower. Leave room for seeds and harvested ingredients.
  2. Make seeds. Select a herb and use Make seeds with a furnace. Each herb converted produces ten seeds and consumes a furnace use.
  3. Choose a growing region. Plant on a suitable outdoor tile in a region where herbs grow. Safe buildings and town stars are not planting spots.
  4. Use a seed. Planting can fail. Potash and Sapropel in your bag are applied automatically when planting; check your supplies before starting.
  5. Water the tile. Using water waters all unwatered seeds on your current square and improves the chance of a successful harvest.
  6. Watch the growth timer. Normal crops become ready after 60 minutes; quick-growth crops after 20 minutes. Once ready, harvest within 15 minutes. The in-game crop status is your guide.

Where to get supplies

Visit the Water Supplier at The Oathwater Banks, tile 2136. Sapropel is available at tile 795 in The Fallen God's Mire. For Potash, visit Sailor Lee in Chainbreak Docks with a Titanium Nugget. Check the in-game supplier for the current price and bundle before purchasing.

Harvesting your crops

  1. Stand on a tile with ripe crops and finish any combat.
  2. Use your Sickle, then select Mow in the farming window, or type \mow.
  3. A Mower can harvest automatically: use it to start and use it again to stop. Stop it when you are finished; it spends uses even when there are no crops to collect.
  4. Keep harvesting while the crop has remaining yields. A harvest attempt can fail; watered crops and Harvesting proficiency improve your chances.

Harvest your own crops. Taking another player's crop without an allowed relationship can give you Criminal status for five minutes. Tools have limited uses; daily-reward tools are deliberately short-lived.

Mining: licence, explore, collect

  1. Visit a Gnomish Taskmaster and buy a mining licence outside combat.
  2. The licence lasts 15 minutes and applies to its named region. You cannot replace it while it is still active.
  3. Move through that region. Your steps can reveal minerals; standing still does not generate discoveries.
  4. Watch for the discovery message and collect the minerals from the ground. Higher Mining proficiency can improve the quantity found.

Taskmaster locations include The Fallen God's Mire 795, Bloodglass Delve 4156, Lantern Meadows 3329, Blackiron Hollows 1034, Dawnrest 3896, Shattered Sun 1441, Ragged Ward 8806, Bloodvine Terraces 4932, Widow's Monolith 5691 and Thornwake Tangle 7240. Use the world map to find the area and check the licence cost in game.

Fishing & useful catches

Bring a fishing rod to a pond boat or travelling ship. Use the rod to start fishing and use it again to stop. Rods have limited uses, and catches are not guaranteed. Fish are weightless; you can sell them or melt them into gold bars with a furnace. Keep recipe ingredients you want to brew instead of melting them.
